Celebrating the Moroccan Green March at Maple Bear Rabat

On Tuesday, November 5th, students at Maple Bear Rabat came together to celebrate a pivotal moment in Moroccan history—the Green March. This special day provided our young learners with an opportunity to immerse themselves in the story of their nation’s peaceful march towards unity, while participating in hands-on activities that helped them connect with the significance of the event.

The Green March, which took place in 1975, was a peaceful demonstration that saw 350,000 Moroccans march to reclaim the Sahara, reinforcing Morocco’s unity and territorial integrity. Through engaging storytelling sessions, our students learned about the courage, patriotism, and solidarity that defined this historical event. The lessons brought to life the spirit of resilience and pride that the Green March represents, instilling a sense of national pride in each student.

One of the day’s highlights was an interactive activity that encouraged students to visualize Morocco’s geography and territorial unity. Armed with maps of Morocco, students excitedly colored the different regions and carefully placed small Moroccan flags across the map. For the younger students, this activity was both a fun and educational experience, while older students took extra care to understand the layout of Morocco’s regions and to place each flag with pride.

This hands-on project went beyond coloring and decorating maps; it fostered a tangible connection to the values that the Green March celebrates—unity, pride, and a shared Moroccan identity. As the children proudly held up their completed maps, adorned with colorful flags, they felt a collective pride in their heritage.

At the end of the day, students left with not only a better understanding of the Green March’s history but also a stronger sense of connection to their Moroccan roots. Celebrating this important day allowed them to express their patriotism creatively, building memories they’ll carry forward.

At Maple Bear Rabat, we are committed to cultivating an appreciation for Morocco’s rich history and culture, blending educational values with activities that make learning both meaningful and memorable.
